A volcano is a mountain which can produce lava. Lava is a fiery liquid substance that could kill/burn anyone. If you see smoke coming out of a mountain it is a volcano. Volcanoes can erupt any time without anyone knowing. If a volcano does erupt, it can destroy anything at all that is in its path. Under a volcano and on the sides, there are volcanic tubes running under the volcano so that the lava in the volcano can go into the water without destroying anything, this creates land.
Inside a volcano there is magma. Magma is the hot liquid inside the volcano that you can’t see at all. Volcanoes can also make tsunamis. When under water volcanoes erupt they can cause a tsunami. Volcanoes have three different stages. These stages are dormant which means it is asleep but still active, active which means is very active and can erupt at anytime and extinct which means it can’t erupt anymore(dead). If you swallow the ashes of a volcano you will choke. When lava goes into the water it makes lots of steam that you can see from miles away. Volcanoes are very dangerous and you should always stay away from them when they are dormant or active but if you are a volcanologist you could go. Mt rangitoto is a volcano
